Manufacturing of aquaria Brno

The subject of this bachelor thesis was to design a new aquarium manufacture in Brno for Pavlica corporation. Project is based on architecture study done in subject AG035 Architecture design studio undertook in the sixth semester of bachelor´s study. The plot is located to the south of Brno in Horní Heršpice by the Sokolova Street. There are factory buildings in the wider neighbourhood but in the immediate area around the plot there are prevailing residential buildings and a railway. Civic facilities can be found in the walking distance. The area is classified as a brownfield intended for building. The plot has a slight slope in the direction of Sokolova Street. The building is designed in the shape of the letter “U”. Two story administration part and representative part dedicated to the public can be found in the front of the object. Main manufacture hall is connected to administration part and is linked to the exterior via section gate. Perpendicularly to the main manufacture hall is carpentry with storage and waste. The carpentry is also linked to the exterior via section gate. The section gates lead to manipulation yard in the back of the plot which is connected to Sokolova Street via road. There is a parking lot situated along this road. The façade of the building is created from advanced glass wall with designed support system. In the centre of the building is semi-public atrium with garden.

Rentable object

The assignment of the Bachelor thesis on the topic Rentable object Brno is to propose suitable building for small business and enterprise. The building site is located in the Brno-Kohoutovice district. The closest neighbourhood is built-up by the production and administrative complex, residential buildings and community services. The site of 11 666 m2 is slightly sloping, it is not used currently, it is overgrown with natural greenery. The task was to design a building with small modules inside for renting them to companies or craftsmen. My design suggests a complex of three new buildings with flexible and variable rentable spaces for commercial activities related to craft production. The biggest building is a production hall, two smaller ones are for staff zone and management. The basic masses are blocks of different sizes. The block of the three-storey production hall is partially wrapped into expanded metal that covers the exterior gallery. The vertical and horizontal walkways are designed in contrasting colours: yellow and white. The building envelope below the perforated sheet is made of insulated aluminium panels. The interior is divided into individual production modules. These cabins need higher ceiling, so they are over 2 floors. They are separated by system of movable partition walls thanks to which each workspace can be extended according to requirements.

Constructive change of Protectorate Prague: Nazi plans and realized projects of traffic infrastructure and industrial buildings

This thesis deals with the questions of urban planning and building activity in the time of the Second World War. The research topic of the single case study is Prague in the period of Nazi occupation between March 1939 and May 1945. The aim of the thesis is to challenge the simplifying interpretation of occupation as a period without any building activity. The simplifying interpretation usually explains the low number of built objects being caused directly by the occupants' long term plans with Protectorate Bohemia and Moravia. The thesis tries to challenge this interpretation and using the examples of built objects of the traffic infrastructure and industrial buildings, it shows the ongoing building. The first part shortly summarizes the concepts of Nazi architecture and town planning and connects them with long-term plans with the occupied territories of South-eastern Europe. The second chapter concentrates on the Nazi concepts and plans for remaking Prague and introduces the problematics of building activities during occupation. Based on archival research, the examples of building activity of traffic infrastructure and industrial buildings are shown in the third chapter. Žižkov freight station

Diploma thesis is focused on Žižkov freight station and its transformation to cultural center. It introduces its characteristics, operation and construction. It further explores the process of becoming a cultural heritage site. It describes various obstacles including complicated relations and interests of owner of the site, developers, municipality, politicians and at last but not least non-profit organisations and citizens' initiatives. It is a study of an environment, which requires to be understood prior to any further project planning. The thesis also includes concrete vision of the cultural center, introduces involved subjects - future inhabitants of the freight station and depicts the property and financial situation of the complex. This part of the thesis also includes one concrete project, which is to be organized and run by the author herself. Further on the thesis includes examples of similar cultural centers, which are already in operation both in the Czech Republic and abroad, and which prove to have positive impact on the society, art community and economics of its surroundings. Future of Žižkov freight station is merely a fraction in the issue of conversion of industrial spaces in general. Nevertheless it remains an unique opportunity to build up an extraordinary project in one of the most impressive industrial environments of Prague.
